Family/Caring
Adult
The family or caring adult acts as a role model, teacher,
guide, and inspiration; to assist children in reaching their
fullest potential and successfully transitioning into adulthood.
Facts
about the role
a. This role is an opportunity to make a lasting, significant
impact on the life of an older youth in the foster care system.
b. A one-to-one match is found to best suit the youth and family/caring
adult.
c. Youth are from 10 to 18 years of age.
d. All applicants are interviewed and must have a background
check.
e. All selected applicants must attend orientation and training.
f. There is no minimum time requirement. It is the intent of
the program to create a nurturing, guiding, and loving relationship
that may last a life time. A one-year minimum time commitment
is required.
g. Families or caring adults spend 15-20 hours per month with
the youth

Information and Opportunities
We rely on
people from the community to help us operate our program. We
need volunteers to help with the following:
• Families or caring adults to match with youths
• Fundraising and events
• Grant writing
• Recruitment of families and caring adults
• Public relations and marketing
• Newsletters
• Administrative and research projects
Why become a volunteer?
• Working with older foster youth is challenging but extremely
rewarding.
• Most people can find a position that fits their schedule,
a position where they can make a difference, and a position
that is enjoyable.
• People from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences
work together to make a difference in the life of an older foster
youth who would otherwise not receive the guidance, nurturing,
support to successfully transition into adulthood.
